Day Seven
Date: 03/04/2010

Kinlochleven to Fort William

The Journey

The team gathered at the breakfast table in Kinlochleven knowing they had 1 final stretch to the finish line, delighted it was not too far away but sad the laughter from the week was coming to an end.

With the steep and ragged climb out of Kinlochleven where I got injured last year I was taking no chances and took cover in the support vehicle again, determined to be fit and ready to enjoy the last 8 miles at the last road before the climb into Fort William.

A wee bit of drizzle kept the gang cool  as the kicked off the final push to the finishing point.

The team were called at 10am by Wilf who had set off  himself leaving the hotel at 5am in a bid to finish the stretch and get a lift from his mate down to the game at Ibrox – he even left us a good luck note on the message board half way through the day, now that is a dedicated Rangers fan!

The team pushed on at a really good speed as they had caught up with us in no time as we heard them laughing and joking a couple of hours from when we left them.

It was a much better place to be than the dreadful place we found ourselves with that miserable weather last year!

Could hear some of the team telling each other about wee aches and pains but fantastic to hear of no injuries.

This stretch seemed so much better than that 1st time I tackled it with Scott, Colin and Jamie way back at the start of our trekking.

The team were in fine form as they laughed their way down the descend into Fort William  on our way to meet the piper who would pipe us the to the finish point.

It was lovely to meet wee Nicola Clair again who walked with Scott and me along to meet the piper, well done wee yin!

The team assembled and the music started for that final few hundred yards where there was a fair welcoming party gathered to cheer us to the end.

Plenty posing for photos at the official finish point

It was now time for celebrating the end of the trekking career!

The vehicles headed off to the Alexandria hotel to get scrubbed up, dinner and party!

We were joined again by Johnny Cash an later got a great surprise to see Karen, Kenny, Zoë and Jack had travelled up again to help us celebrate.

The party went on well into the wee small hours as the team gathered to remember the laughs and adventures of what was again another memorable week for the Travis Trek scrapbook and a tremendous way to round off  the trekking career for Scotland’s Guide Dog of the year.

I cannot thank everyone for their amazing help over the week, The Royal Marines for their incredible support, all the Legends and every person who took part and helped make this final trek an amazing success.

A great big thanks you all,

Day Six
Date: 02/04/2010

Kingshouse to Kinlochleven

The Journey

The team were  given some tremendous news at the breakfast table that the weather forecast for the remainder of the trek was to be good!

The sun was to shine and the possibility of light snow showers was the news that the team wanted to hear.  With the  Devils Staircase going over Glencoe on this stretch the views would be excellent.

With the boss having a shot at the blindfold from the Kings House hotel to the bottom of the Devil’s staircase, it was time for me to display my guiding skills once again woo woo!!

As I had missed a couple of days due to the adverse weather I showed them all what they had been missing and guided Scott at speed for the few miles to the road crossing.

Top marks to the boss, she put in a good effort and Shona done well guiding her.

It was Marine Matheson’s turn again and Don took over the blindfold to tackle the same stage up the way which he done last year with no sight again.

I hung up my harness at this point,  was not wanting to chance a wee injury on that ragged Devils Staircase!

The boss took over the reigns guiding Scott over the scenic  area of Glencoe.

The cameras were clicking away so check the gallery for all the images of the breathtaking part of our wee country!

The better weather ensured high spirits from the Travis Trekkers and many stories of laughter filtered back to us at the command HQ

Big Davie McPherson had a great time on his stretch of Travis Trek 6 and Bomber Brown enjoyed his last day with us.  Typical Bomber fashion, he coaxed the Marines into a challenge and offered them £50 towards the charity to the first one back, by running all the way to the hotel!  Heavy backpacks on they took up the challenge!

Lindsay took me in the last few miles to meet the gang and it was great to be able to work and guide Scott  into Kinlochleven.

What a difference from the previous days of Artic conditions as we got to the hotel to enjoy a couple of hours in the beer garden in the sunshine!

We met Bomber’s partner, Sandra again and it was good to meet wee Kieran, her nephew – hope you enjoyed the lollies wee man!

We bid farewell to Bomber and thanked him for coming along, thanks for the laughs big man!

The evenings entertainment was a local band in the hotel who kindly blasted out this year’s Trek anthem, Little Old Wine Drinking me by Dean Martin, a classic!

A stag night in the hotel had arranged a surprise firework  display, pretty impressive  but a bit loud for us 4 legged legends lol;

Thanks to the generosity of the punters in the hotel and Roger for his donation to the trek from the MacDonald Hotel, much appreciated.

Day Five
Date: 01/04/2010

Bridge of Orchy to Kingshouse

The Journey

April fools  day, and I was certainly not going to be the 1 caught out as the stretch across Ranoch Muir was looking to be pretty hazardous again, but the promise  of a few miles with Lindsay in from the Kings House hotel to meet the team  sounded good.

Today was a chance for Travis Trek 6 team member Wilf to try out a day with the blindfold on, well done to him for a great effort, no doubt he will let you all know how he found the day in the blind world!

The guys walked on doing great pace and it was great to greet them with no stories of the shocking conditions they had endured the previous couple of days.  The sun shone at Kings House as the team knew that they had 2 days trekking to crack to reach that finish line.

Check the photos of Scott and the gang feeding the friendly local deer folks, don’t worry I put the puppy face on so I got a bonio  too!

The gang enjoyed a couple of well earned refreshments in the Kings House bar before we all headed back to the base for the evening at Bridge of Orchy in the support vehicle.

Davie McPherson joined us that evening to prepare for his stint on the trek.

Big Slim shared his stories with the team in the evening after a lovely meal.

We were also joined by another Legend, our web designer, the lovely Sarah had travelled all the way up from Swindon to take part in the last 2 legs of the trek, thanks for the amazing site you have done for us this year Sarah!!

Day Four
Date: 31/03/2010

Crainlarich to Bridge of Orchy

The Journey

The breakfast table at the  Ben More was full of stories from the previous night’s entertainment, and also of the wind through the night that had battered the lodges that the gang had stayed in!

Billy and Rab got up early and went to rekkie the hill the team had come down the  day before but had turned back to tell us all the news that it was impassable due to the deep drifting snow and the pavements were very bad too.  The only option was for the team to be ferried 1km around the road to where they could kick the day off, it was a great relief as walking at all was looking grim the evening before.

The stories of the trekking in the deep snow were being relayed to us by phone, go check the photos out!

The team were joined on this stretch by Davie and his wife, a colleague of the boss, thanks for coming out to support us guys! (you already deserve a medal Davie for having to work with the boss for 12 hours at a time)

A quick stop at the green wellie shop for the team who included Gordon Durie and Alex Rae then up and over to Bridge of Orchy….. which was more artic conditions as the weather had turned from the sunshine from a few hours previous – so glad I had been given gardening leave to spend time in the support vehicle again folks!

Deep, drifting snow and very high winds were in store for the gang as they traversed over to the lovely Bridge of Orchy Hotel.

At points the snow was waist deep and deep pools of freezing slush and water, ask the boss about that as she thought she knew better than the rest of the party and set off on a tangent that resulted in an icy plunge for her and Scott and a rescue mission from Col Sgt Murray, Tel and Shone (thanks guys but I wouldn’t have minded if you’d left them up there for a while to teach the boss a lesson as to who is the Scottish Guide dog of the year!)

With the professional help of the Marines to point the right way they arrived safe and sound off the hill and I nipped out from the hotel to greet them and to hear their stories.

Dinger the Marine did very well carrying his new pal, George (names changed to protect the innocent) in his back pack, his forfeit for losing at spoof……George being the biggest rock he could find – looked awful heavy to me!

Games and entertainment were heard all night in the lovely hotel after dinner, Oh they can be a right noisy lot when I’m trying to get some shut eye next to the log fire!

The forfeit that night for the loser of spoof was for a Marine to run into the nearby river….when his clothes stayed in the bar…see what you missed girls? (we didn’t!!!)

Day 3
Date: 30/03/2010

Inversnaid to Crainlarich

The Journey

Hi Trav fans

Sorry for the delay but its time for me to get you all up to speed with all the adventures throughout the week which was impossible last week due to lack of internet connection, time and a lot of tiredness.

The 3rd day saw us wake up  to the arrival of Stuart McCall and a lot of snow!  Stuart actually tried to join us the previous evening but could only make it as far as Drymen due to the adverse weather.  The forecast for the next couple of days was not good at all, for that reason the Scottish Guide Dog of the year was given some quality chill time to spend in the comfort of the support vehicle!

The team passed on all their stories though, so here’s how they got on:

The rollercoaster ride back to the start point at Inversnaid from the hotel in the support vehicle had the trekkers thinking they were at Blackpool pleasure beach then it was a step out into the snow and sleet to bid farewell to young Billy the pup as he left us for his home up in Forfar.  The East bank of  Loch Lomond was there to be cracked, and the boss did her best to guide Scott with the help of crack Marines Billy and Big John (luckily now banisters required this year Rab). The pair were mentally drained by the end of it with the slippy rocks on the narrow paths to be navigated across and the snow and sleet kicking right in.  The banter and laughter kept everyones spirits high though.  After the passed the Ardlui ferry point they knew the end was not too far away before they found the nearby bothy for a few minutes shelter, all totally soaked and remembering fondly of the lovely log fire they left behind at Aberfoyle lol!

After a quick refreshment stop (lucazade only Rab; honest) the team headed off to the Drovers for a heat but were met on the way by kind hearted Brian from the Ben More who had come out in his van to hand out some hot soup to everyone, thanks from the gang Brian!

A quick heat and the obligatory photo with the bear in the Drovers (did you know Billy Rodgers has met a real bear before???  The team then headed off to what Scott had described as a lovely walk over to Crianlarich, but how dreadfully wrong he was!!

Jim the Aussie Paratrooper on an exchange visit had never seen snow before but after this leg was not wanting to see it ever again!

The forecast was right and the arctic conditions had kicked right in, driving gale force winds, snow hail battering their faces and the knee deep cow muck had the team wondering what had hit them!

The team battled on and finally met up with the rest of the team at the Ben More for a heat and a well earned beer!

The weather forecast for that evening was pretty grim and a lot was in the balance for the next day.

The Travis Trek 6 team decided to forget the weather and had another tremendous night of laughter and sing son in the Ben More, with Billy, Rab and even JJ up on the stage entertaining all, who had been joined  with Gordon Durie for the night preparing for the early start the next morning.

Day Two
Date: 29/03/2010

BALMAHA TO INVERSNAID

The Journey

Hi Trav fans.

Day two or more importantly night one under our belts! John “Bomber” Brown dashed down from a function that he was at in Aberdeen just in time to join the fun at the Buchanan Arms, Drymen, and chaired a fantastic evening of fun and frolics mostly at the Marines expense. The majority is far too X rated for my posh paws to repeat on blogs but if you wanna catch up with me sometime you’d be surprised what information you can get out of me for a couple of bonios!

Day two saw the Legend that is Terry Hurlock take the walk in his stride once again. Bomber Brown, as a virgin TravisTreker  experienced the banter that  the Trek is now famous for first hand and as the hip flasks swung into action I knew that we were going to be in for a long day.

Mark Hateley and his missus did fantastically well and outstripped several queasy looking Marines that were a little errr tired from their late bedtime the night before.

The weather was kind to us for a change and we made good time as we commenced the challenge that is the east bank on Loch Lomond. The terrain is so bad at that point I chose to bail out at Rowerdenan and let the boss take over the reins so happily, where I was looking at the banks of Loch Lomond (a roaring fire in the hotel) they were very bonny but the team had other words to describe them which unfortunately I’m not allowed to print for legal and decency reasons!!

The walk ended at the Inversnaid hotel where the support team whisked the walkers away to the fancy Forest Hills Macdonald Hotel in Aberfoyle where rookie recruit to the Travis Trek team Billy the pup was welcomed with much ooh and ahhing from the hardened Marines.

As you may have read in previous blogs, Billy is one of the pups sponsor by the money raised from last years Trek and has recently started his new life as a trainee guide dog with his puppy walkers Veda and Ian. Check out the gallery for the latest picture and his progress (big thank to Veda and Ian for travelling down to bring Billy and so him what guide dog life may have in store for him)

Once the pup was sent off to bed the party really started as Bomber had arranged for his mate Derek Forbes, former bass player from Simple Minds to come up and give us a turn. He arrived with a couple of pals and blew us all away with some fantastic rock and rock music from past and present. Huge thanks to the guys as they really lifted our spirits while we contemplated the next day which will be the remainder of the East Bank and when I last looked out the window the weather couldn’t quite decide if it should throw rain, snow or both at us for the morning.

Well I’m off to bed now folks to dream of log fires and fluffy pillows. Stay tuned for updates whenever I find a signal.

Woof Woof

Day One
Date: 28/03/2010

Milngavie to Balmaha

The Journey

Well Trav fans that’s the first day of TravisTrek 6 over and done with and what a day!!!! An amazing turn out with over 50 folk that managed to remember to put their clocks forward and make it to the start point at Milngavie. We even had guest appearances from Broxi Bear and Pippa the guide dog.

It was great to see the first batch of legends too. Obviously “Sir” Terry Hurlock was escorted by the Royal Marines to the start line after having spent a quiet night with them the night before (ahem, aye we believe you, thousands wouldn’t!)

Arthur Newman went the full 20 miles as well and the boss says provided some light relief and a lovely view for the ladies in the group!

The original “Bomber” Colin Jackson also made a guest appearance and wasn’t put off by the presence of Smeato as we explained that he wasn’t that type of bomber!

On that note Smeato, it’s a flipping good job you didn’t have those new boots on at the airport that day else you might have just had to take them off and flung them at that crazy guy as you’d had never made a run at him with those blisters and the way you were walking at the end of the day!!

The first five mile were nice and flat and we had plenty of kids to keep us company (well done Toots, Glen and Connor to name but a few and a special well done to my best pal Freya)

After the first part a few bailed out and left us tough sorts to carry on to Drymen where we found that we’d lost one member of the party (mentioning no names!) anyway at that point a few more were due to drop out but got caught up in the moment and choose to make a fantastic effort and push on all the way to Balmaha.

As usual I was the main attraction today but there was a cheeky upstart guide dog that tried to steal my thunder. His name is Evan and for some reason thought that, as he had youth on his side (a mere 3 year old pup!) he could try to upstage me on my own Trek be guiding his 71 year old owner, Rab at the speed of a thousand gazelles to try and overtake me, ME, Scottish guide dog of the year! That just ain’t gonna happen any time soon Evan. These paws are gonna take some filling. But credit where credit is due and a huge well done to Rab for keeping up with that cheeky pup and making it the full 20 miles.

You’ll all be glad to hear that the Trek traditions are being maintained and Her Majesty’s finest regiment only took around 7 miles to take the first wrong turn and get us lost but once again Cpl Matheson just coz you have youth on your side don’t be thinking that you can fill Colours Ginger Rogers boots quite yet; your 400 yd detour has nothing on his 4 mile cock up last year!

Anyway, I’ll sign off for now and go and soak my paws but stay tuned and check out the gallery as I’ll be updating it where and when ever we can get a signal!!

Thanks for the continued support Trav fans.

Overdue Update
Date: 18/03/2010

The Journey

Well hi there Trav fans,

Its sure been a long time since I got round to updating you all on the goings on in the run up but as I'm sure you can understand, Scott has had me very busy stuffing licking envelopes for you folks to register for the walk and of course my paws are aching with all the letters I've sent out asking the kind Trav fans all around the world to dig deep one last time to give to such a good cause....... me! Seriously though, lets not forget that all your hard earned cash goes towards raising and training guide dogs all over the country. Obviously they can't all be as handsome or talented as myself but we can but try to point them in the right direction.

In the absence of the blog update, I hope you've had chance to keep an eye on my pictorial exploits in the gallery? Did you see the snow in Crainlarich!!!! OMG I don't think they make snow shoes in my size! I'll have to have a look on EBay but I'm sure working on growing my fur (well thats the excuse I give Scott when I'm trying to dodge my nightly brush!)

The team had a great time up there in the snow and at times Scott was waist deep (I wasn't guiding at that point I might add, (eh hem boss, don't give up the day job)) Looks like it might melt in time for the Trek but to be fair that just means lots of mud and I don't fancy the baths that tend to go along with mud!!

Last weekend was the penultimate before the kick off and as the boss is working this weekend (all together now, awwwwww) we decided to have a bit of a change of scenery and head down to the lake district  for a quiet break at a lovely little pub called the Royal at Dockray. Hospitality was great and the meals were even better. We were luck with the weather as well but as my motto goes, "every day is a school day" and the boss learnt a valuable lesson as she found that the expensive walking GPS that Scott bought her last birthday as a desperate attempt to take fewer "scenic routes" works much better when it is in the same county, or even country as those using it and not back at home in ones work bag!!!!!!! As usual we ended up causing quite a stir and the poor old couple that were happily sitting on a bench enjoying there sandwiches seemed quite bemused as we walked past them for a third time with a merry wave and the boss shouting "I blame the dog!" How rude.

Lesson learnt I hope at the expense of my paws!!

Anyway, the countdown is really on in earnest now and in less that 3 weeks the trek will be nothing but a distant memory. If you haven't registered or sent your forms back yet, please do ASAP as the boss will go crazy if people turn up on the day and we haven't sorted out transport for them. Emails will be coming out shortly to those how have registered so that we know who is coming on what day so please look out for the email and respond as quickly as possible.

Anyway, best go and get my beauty sleep now. Another busy ol day in the office tomorrow and then final training this weekend.

Keep safe on them there hills folks

Woof Woof,

Travis

Another busy week
Date: 04/03/2010

The Journey

Well hi there trav fans, hope that you haven't been missing me too much and you've managed to struggle through you day to day lives without my witty quips to keep you going.

Anyway, the ear drops are all finished now you'll be pleased to hear. I'm not so sure that I'm so please to hear to be honest, I was quite happy in my muffled little world ignoring Scott as and when i saw fit. But thats that excuse out the window now so i guess I'll just have to get back to the important task of being Scottish guide dog of the year and a general local (and national, infact international!) celebrity!

Talking of celebrity, I was out doing a bit of publicity for the trek today and caught up with our pal Michael who did such a fab job of filming the trek last year. He was representing Alba TV so I took him (oh and the camera man, Scott and the boss) for a wee mini treklett up our old favorite Tinto Hill to do some filming and interviews. Whilst i felt that my on screen performance was as usual faultless they seemed to be more interested in listening to Scott waffling on about "targets" and "inspiring folk" and all that carry on. What TV crews have against a waggy tail and my signature pricked ear/ head tilt pose i have no idea but hey, they're the professionals!

Still quite a bit of snow on them there hills so we're gonna take a wee trip up to one of our locations on Saturday to check out just what the paths are like up there just now (seeing as there will be only 3 week to go on Sunday (arrgghh) So look out Brian at the Ben More, Crainlarch, we're heading your way to look at the paths obviously but it would be rude to use your car park and not sample you ale!!

Anyway, I'll report back when I've made my assessment

Speak soon,

Woof Woof,

Trav

The training goes on (and on!)
Date: 22/02/2010

Another day up snowy tinto

The Journey

Welcome back Trav fans, Scott has sloped off early to bed (wuss can't take the pace!) and the boss is on nights so I've got the computer to myself.

Well, as the title suggests we've had another great days training out on the hills. The boss was in bed (nights huh) so team members Shona and Lindsay were my chauffeurs for the day (many thanks guys) and canine team member Sky was back on the ball after a stint in dry dock following a nasty paw injury (welcome back Sky)

New walking team member JJ put in a fantastic effort and yomped up the hill like a true Travis trekker so thats another convert to the hills under my belt (well collar actually if you want to be picky!) The team had a great day even when it started snowing up at the top.

Watch out for announcements on the blog to see where we will be walking as we welcome a bit of company, and to be honest I'm sick of listening to the regular team members banter!!

Again, more pics to follow (come on now boss, you're really slacking!) as the official banner for TravisTrek 6 was unveiled at the top on the hill today and I would hate to think they lugged it all the way up there to no avail!!

An eagle eyed puppy walker pointed out that we haven't actually mentioned what time we are setting off on the Trek. Hmmm we were trying not to scare too many people off but I guess we need to tell you that the plan is to gather at the official start point which is a very disappointing obelisk in Milngavie shopping centre (opposite Costa Coffee if my memory serves me right and make mine a double espresso!) at 08:30 for a prompt start at 09:00. And as if that wasn't bad enough news, someone tells me that the clock go back that morning too which will make it feel like 07:30!  Arrrgggh. So well spotted David, now you need to break the news to your pup Royal (who is one of last years sponsored pups).

Keep checking the site folks for regular updates and feel free to get in contact via scott@travistrek.co.uk if you have any questions or suggestions

Yawn, well I suppose its time for me to find my bed and hope that Jazz and Tigs have left me a space near the radiator! I'm off to the vets for my bi annual MOT tomorrow so I'm just trying to think of a decent excuse to get a sick line for some time at the end of March/start of April any ideas folks??

Woof Woof,

Trav

Guide Dog MOT
Date: 22/02/2010

The Journey

Well, thats me back from the vet and guess what...................there's flipping nothing wrong with me, gutted. After a whole load of undignified poking and prodding from my favorite vet Elaine over at Newarthill she confirmed that despite my pitiful pleadings I'm as fit as a flea and ready as ever to take my place on this, my final trek.

She did, however say that I've put a wee bit of weight on and got ear wax! How rude!! So I'm gonna have that one as the reason as to why I sometimes "miss" a couple of Scott's commands.

Training on the Pentlands this Saturday if anyone cares to join us

Speak soon,

Busy Week
Date: 20/02/2010

5 Weeks to go

The Journey

Well that's another week done and training is starting to get back on track. After the trek up tinto with Scott last week we had a quick lap round the local country park on the Sunday and apparently bumped into a guide dog puppy, but he was in his civies so I didn't recognise him (sorry!)

Anyway, I finally found enough space to put up all my valentines cards and nearly put myself out of action by wearing out my paw signing all the ones I sent out (well one can't show favoritism can one?!)

So on Monday we took the big cheque up to present to the Guide Dog Training School at Forfar. The final total was £25,000 which was an amazing achievement during a year which was so financially difficult for so many people. We cannot begin to thank all those who worked so hard and gave so generously to raise such a fantastic total.

Having said that I was less than impressed with the pups at Forfar showing off in their fancy training hall. They don't know they are born with their under floor heated kennels and fancy pants equipment and trainers (people that train dogs that is, they haven't gone quite so far as to give those posing pups nike airs yet, but hey, just watch this space!) Wasn't like that in my day, we were lucky to call a cardboard box home (que for sympathy please). Anyway, obviously all the pups were clamoring for my attention and pawograph (well that was Ivan's excuse for his lively entrance!) so I sat them all down and gave them a little chat about life as a real guide dog and passed on some pearls of wisdom such as, forget this shopping centre nonsense and get your new owners up a hill, they'll thank you in the end (honest). Ivan, Erwin and wee Griff (the 6 week old German shepherd pup(very cute, says the boss, not me of course)) lapped up all my advise but the sensible (boring) pups from the centre that are just about to finish their training seemed to think keeping their owners away from "danger" and stuff like that was more up their street (borrrrrring!!)

Wednesday was a glorious day so I took the boss and Scott up Coulter Fell (photos to follow (get it together boss!)) we got a great stretch of the legs, had some fun in the snow and met Beav, Spike, Derek and Jack from the "so soggy crew" that were up enjoying the hill too. Anyway, was a great route and the boss managed not to get us lost for a change so that was nice!!

Wednesday was also a busy day for a couple of our friends and puppy walkers Ian and Veda as they took delivery of "Billy" one of the pups sponsored from the money you guys all helps to raise last year. Again, photos to follow soon when the boss pulls her finger out! He's a bundle of fluff at the moment but will grow, under Ian and Veda's expert guidance to be a cracking guide dog (although obviously not as talented or famous as me!)

We also heard some good news that another one of our sponsored pups, Champ (can anyone remind me why we chose that name????!!!!) will be going to his puppy walker any day now, and after a worrying time for one of our previous sponsored pups, Condor is now well on the road to recovery.

So, I'd better go to bed now as I've got another big walk ahead of me tomorrow whilst we test drive one of our team that has been a supporter for many years but has now choosen to take the plunge and join us walking. (See ya at the top JJ!)

So night night folks, remember, its important that if you want to join the trek you must register so that we can keep track of folk out on them there hills and if we've sent you a pack, please get the disclaimer and medical info back to us ASAP as the nurse has a foul temper on her and I don't wanna be on the wrong end of it if you rock up on the day with your forms!!!

Hi Trav fans, another day off for poorly Scott so another days training for me without him to hold me up!! Poor ole Jazz had to sit it out today (well she is 77 in dog years so she deserves big respect as far as I can say) Anyway so Tigs and I set off round Chatleherault park at top speed with one of my favorite walking partners and Team Trav member Shona (she has good bonios)as she was breaking in her new boots, and very nice they were too, well they smelt nice (for now!!) So thats the tip for today guys, if you are coming with us and of course you are well underway with your training now, think on! If you intend to get new boots for the trek, get them NOW (or at least next pay day) and get them worn in ASAP!!

Dog days and duvet days

The Journey

Well Scott is still poorly sick so being the sympathetic and loyal guide dog that I am I jumped ship, left him in bed and went for a walk with out him with my good pals Jazz and Tigs (oh and we took the boss out to coz she gets narky if we don't!)
Anyway, for some reason, turns out the local squirrels didn't want to make friends with us so we got on down to some serious training and pounded out a few miles. Tigs got a bit distracted and rolled in something unmentionable which resulted in us all ending up in the bath when we got home (cheers Tigga!!)
So thats about the size of my news for today, hoping to get out again tomorrow to test drive one on the other TravisTrek team members new boots (dunno what she has agains paws myself?)

Bye for now

Training hits an all time low!

The Journey

Hi Trav fans, well as the title suggests training aint going so good. Scott is proper poorly with man flu(all together now AWWWWWW) so the training regime is going from bad to worse. Thats a full week we've not been out now and Helen hasn't done much better with the weather and work.
Hopefully the antibiotics will work their magic soon and we'll get back out on them hills ASAP
In the mean time we have now taken delivery of the flyers and posters and have started sending out joining packs to all those that have registered (and a few that haven't just to shame them into it)So if you haven't registered yet, fill in the form on the "joining the trek section" and we will send you your pack. Remember that this is a tough walk and you need to be physically fit if you want to come with us. The marines have provided lots of useful imformation but its up to you to assess your fitness before you commit.
That said, we have found that most folk are willing to try to keep up with the pace in the evening and if you want to get sponsored to come on the trek we promise not to tell anyone just how far you walked (eg from bar to bar stool!)
Well i'll sign off for now and go and mop Scotts weary brow, maybe or i might just go to sleep Yawwwwn

Grumpy Guide Dog!

The Journey
Well, thats me back from another hard day at the office!! Snow underfoot is chilly on "ones paws" as her majesty said last year!?! Anyway at least they didn't get the grit out coz that reeeeally hurts. So didn't get out so much today and to make matters worst, I get home and my pals Jazz (another labrador) and Tigs (no one knows what she is) have been out for a fab walk with the boss (Helen that is, even Scott wouldn't dare challenge that one!) in the snow and been playing with what Jazz described as a "bear" named Norman (sounded more like a Newfoundland to me but you know how women exaggerate)a terrier named Bo and an as yet un named recently rescued dog.So as I said, they has a rare old time running about the woods and swapping doggy stories, Tigs was telling Norman all about me and how famous I am (famous and talented that is I might add Tigga!) anyway, turns out that me and Norman went to the same doggy hospital in Fife last year, small world eh! Anyway Scott is running round like a headless chicken, something about and interveiw or something, I wasn't listening (my job is to see not hear!)Read all about it on the shout box for all the ways you can listen. I however will be sleeping, and sulking, and not talking to Jazz and Tigs, hope they get a bath,it would serve them right! Bye for now woof woof, Trav
